Kirk Herbstreit is an American sports analyst at ‘College GameDay’, a TV show on ESPN that covers college football. He was also a former quarterback for the Ohio State football team. He also offers color commentary on ABC and ESPN about college football games.

Early Life and College Career
Herbstreit was born on August 19, 1969. His mother was a homemaker and his father Jim Herbstreit worked as an assistant coach at Ohio State. His father also had been a co-captain of the 1960 Ohio State team.
Kirk attended the Centerville High School located in Centerville, Ohio. He played for the Elks as a quarterback and as a senior was named as the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year. Kirk was also an excellent baseball player.
After graduating from school, Herbstreit went to the Ohio State University. After John Cooper was hired as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 1988, he was the first player who committed to the team. From 1989 to 1993, Kirk played for Ohio State University as a quarterback and was a 4-year letter winner. He began leading the team in 1992 as a senior. The same year he was also appointed as a co-captain and passed for 1,904 yards in that football season, which included four games of 200-plus yard.
Kirk graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1993 from Ohio State.
Career in Broadcasting
After graduating from college, Kirk turned his focus to sports broadcasting.
As of 2018, he works as a co-host on ESPN’s TV show ‘College GameDay’, wherein he is engaged in discussions about the college football games of the day, and analysis of players and highlights, etc. The show visits colleges around the country every Saturday to preview the next football game of the school.
Kirk also serves as an analyst and commentator for the college football prime time series coverage of ABC Sports. He visits the booth for ABC’s Saturday night college football games. He is also a regular contributor to ‘ESPN The Magazine’ and ESPN.com. He also contributes to ESPN Radio affiliate, FM radio station 97.1 The Fan, based at Columbus, Ohio.
In the past, Herbstreit has worked as color commentator for ESPN’s Thursday night games. He wrote the in-season weekly column ‘Inside The Game With Kirk Herbstreit’ in 1997 for The Sporting News. He worked as a co-panelist for “Who’s Now” series in 2007. He used to appear for EA Sports’ NCAA Football as a commentator every year till the series went on a break.

Kirk married Allison in 1998. She was a cheerleader at Ohio State. The couple has 4 sons that include twins. As of 20181, the family lives in Nashville, Tennessee. His twin sons attend the Montgomery Bell Academy. Kirk has stated that he moved his family from Ohio due to harassment from fans of Ohio State after he criticized the team in a show.

In 1992, Kirk set a record of 28 pass completions for Ohio State in the game against rivals Michigan.
After he became the co-captain of Ohio State in 1992, Kirk and his father became the 2nd ‘father and son’ duo to each having being the captain of Ohio State.
