Josephine Victoria “Joy” Behar is an American comedian, television personality, actor, and writer. Her birth name is Joy Occhiuto. She is the only original member of the panel who continues to make frequent appearances on the ABC daytime talk show The View, which she co-hosts.

Josephine Victoria Occhiuto was the only child born to Josephine’s parents, who were Roman Catholics and of Italian heritage. She was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in 1942.
Both of her parents worked in the garment industry; her mother, Rose (née Carbone), was a seamstress, and her father, Gino Occhiuto, was a truck driver for Coca-Cola.
In 1964, Behar received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Queens College. Two years later, in 1966, he received a Master of Arts degree in English education from Stony Brook University.
She was an English teacher at Lindenhurst Senior High School in Lindenhurst, New York, from the late 1960s until the early 1970s. Lindenhurst is located on Long Island. At the HB Studio, she received training in acting.
How Joy Behar got a break in entertainment industry
Behar began her work in the entertainment industry in the early 1980s as a receptionist for Good Morning America, where she later became a producer for the show.
She was a stand-up comedian and made appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America and The New Show, a Lorne Michaels NBC project that was only on the air for a limited time. Way Off Broadway was a variety chat show that she hosted in 1987 on Lifetime Television. Larry David was a writer and performer on the show.
In addition to that, she was a host on the show Live from Queens, a regular on the show Baby Boom on NBC, and she remained active in the comedy club scene.

Behar was one of the first panelists on Barbara Walters’ daytime chat show The View, which aired on ABC and was co-created by Walters. Behar joined the show in 1997.
Behar’s initial appearances on the show were limited to the times when Walters was absent; but, over time, she was promoted to the role of permanent co-host. Then she served as the host of a section called “Joy’s Comedy Corner,” in which she showcased both well-known and upcoming comedians on occasion.

Behar made the announcement that she would be presenting her own news and conversation program on CNN’s HLN beginning in the fall of 2009 under the title The Joy Behar Show. The announcement took place on June 11, 2009. She did not quit The View, but instead worked at both of the shows at the same time.
HLN made the decision to end the discussion program after only two years of production, despite the fact that it was reputedly the network’s second-highest rated show. On December 15, 2011, The Joy Behar Show hosted its very last episode to the public.
