Sheinelle Marie Jones is a renowned American broadcast journalist and television news anchor who is best known for her work at the NBC News and MSNBC networks. Jones serves as the host of the NBC News program ‘Weekend Today’ (Saturday Edition) along with Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer. She also serves in the capacity of a correspondent on all NBC platforms and appears as a substitute anchor for ‘Today’s weekday editions. Jones formerly served as an anchor on ‘Weekend Today’.

Jones began her journalism career soon after graduation and worked for networks like WICS-TV in Springfield Illinois and KOKI-TV in Tulsa Oklahoma where she served as a news correspondent and anchor. She spent 9 years of her career serving at the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based Fox O&O affiliate WTXF-TV, where she served in several positions including that of the host of ‘Good Day, Philadelphia’, a news program which won an Emmy Award.

Early Life and Education

Jones was born on 19 April 1978 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania as the only child of her parents, mother Sheila Kinnard and father C. Darnell Jones II, who served as a judge in the U.S. District Court. She was raised in the city of Wichita, Kansas in a well-to-do family. Jones is of African-American ethnicity.

Jones was educated at the Wichita Brooks Middle Magnet School, Wichita, Kansas before she moved to the Wichita Heights High School from where she completed her high school graduation. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois to attend Northwestern University where she was an Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority member and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.


Career Rise

Jones embarked on a career in journalism soon after completing her graduation and was hired by the Springfield, Illinois based ABC affiliate WICS-TV where she gained experience about the functioning of broadcast media. Jones worked behind the scenes, carrying tripods and broadcast cameras in the beginning and was soon moved to the studio position where she served as a reporter and correspondent.

Jones then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to join the fox affiliate KOKI-TV where she served as a correspondent before moving to WTXF-TV, an affiliate of FOX O&O in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she spent 9 years of her career working in several positions including that of a correspondent and news anchor. Jones served as the host of ‘Good Day, Philadelphia’, an Emmy Award winning program.


Jones’ gained national recognition when she was hired by the national NBC network where she fulfils several roles. She serves as a news reporter, anchor and also fills in as an indoor studio commentator occasionally. Jones also served on NBC’s sister network MSNBC. While she is a correspondent on all NBC News platforms, she chiefly serves as the host of ‘Weekend Today’ on the network and also fulfils hosting duties on the weekdays occasionally as a substitute anchor. Jones formerly served in the capacity of a news anchor for ‘Weekend Today’.

Personal Life


Jones met Uche Ojeh while they were both attending Northwestern University. The couple soon started dating and got married in 2007. The couple are parents to three children together, son Kayin Ojeh and fraternal twin children, Uche Ojeh Jr. and Clara Josephine Ojeh.

Jones is active on both the social media platforms of Instagram and Twitter and has 57.8K and 40K respectively. One of the shortest journalists in broadcast media, Jones stands tall at only 4 feet 11 inches, which is her trademark.
