Tusshar Kapoor has become the first single father in Bollywood. He announced the arrival of his son Laksshya on social media, much to the pleasant surprise of his fans and friends. The little one is born through surrogacy and IVF.
Though Tusshar declined to share a picture of his son with his refrain ‘nazar lag jaati hain’, proud grandpa Jeetendra shared the photo of Laksshya on his Whatsapp display picture from where the photo went viral.
Tusshar revealed that his paternal instincts came to the fore, this year, when he turned 39. He says that it was director- producer Prakash Jha who asked him to go for IVF and surrogacy, when they car-pooled together as the film-maker had missed his flight to Hyderabad.
During the course of the car travel, Tusshar told the director that he was touching 40 and he wanted a child, when he was still young to be a hands-on father. Prakash advised him that there were many people, he knew that were going for the single parent option through surrogacy and IVF.
The director then introduced Tusshar to his friend Rooprani Parikh, who had a daughter through the procedure. Through her, Tusshar met up with the director of IVF and genetics, Dr. Firuza Parikh at Jaslok Hospital, after which the process of surrogacy went underway. Usually, surrogacy and IVF are done when a person does not find a compatible partner or has cheated but in case of Tusshar, he was clear and positive about having a child.
Tusshar’s son – Surrogate mother
Laksshay was born with the fusion of Tusshar’s sperm and the donor egg. A surrogate mother from Mumbai carried the baby. The identity of the egg has been kept secret in accordance with the Indian Council of Medical Research guidelines. According to the doctor, Tusshar was actively involved in the process; he met the surrogate mother and regularly kept in touch with the progress of the donor.
Tusshar reveals that though he is the first celebrity in India to have a baby through surrogacy and IVF, he was under no pressure. He says, “I do not know if I would take this step five years ago.”
Bollywood has been lavish with praises for Tusshar for taking a bold step. Congratulations poured in from his colleagues Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Vivek Oberoi, Karan Johar, Genelia Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and others.
