Both the actors have a few aspects in common. Both Ranbir and Shahid Kapoor are almost the same age, (born in 1982 and 1981 respectively). Both are known to give 100 percent to their work and both of them are eligible bachelors being linked with almost all the top actresses of Bollywood and even the new comers. Both have worked with directors like Imtiaz Ali and Rajkumar Santoshi While Shahid Kapoor made the nation fall in love with Imtiaz’s Jab We Met, Ranbir Kapoor impressed everyone with his touching performance in the same director’s ‘Rockstar’.
Ranbir Kapoor is Bollywood’s blue-eyed boy and now the biggest superstar of his generation, with every consecutive hit being bigger than the other. His movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is one of the biggest hits of 2013 and also one of the top grossing Bollywood movies of all time.
While Ranbir’s career has been a series of upthrusts, Shahid’s road has been bumpy. Ranbir Kapoor ‘s first movie Sawaariya(2007) may have been a flop but he walked away with the Filmfare Best Actor Debut Award. The awards kept on coming as he won the Critic’s Award for Rocket Singh- Salesman of the Year(2009) and then Best Actor in 2012 for Rockstar and again in 2013, for Barfi ! He was also nominated for Best Actor for movies like Raajneeti and Wake Up Sid. Needless to say, most of Ranbir Kapoor’s movies have made money in the box office.
Shahid Kapoor debuted in 2003 with Ishq Vishq where he won Filmfare Best Male Debut Award and was nominated twice for Jab We Met(2007) and Kaminey(2009). His career has been dotted with more flops than hits. Some bad script choices did him in and save for these three aforementioned movies and another big hit Vivah (2006), he has still been on the lookout for that elusive blockbuster. One of Shahid Kapoor’s biggest mistakes was Mausam, which is called a ‘milestone flop’; he had given a lot of time and effort for the film and thereafter went into a hiatus. Another flop ‘Teri Meri Kahani’ did not help his cause either.
Now, Shahid Kapoor is back with Phata Poster Nikla Hero, the movie has all the positive vibes and mass appeal. The movie is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the one who also directed Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Premi ki Ghazab Kahani. Comparisions between Shahid Kapoor in Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam are inevitable as the role look similar; both characters play the ‘badmaash’ (prankster). While Ranbir’s performance and the movie trailer has a déjà-vu appeal, Shahid’s role seems to have struck a chord with the masses. Shah Rukh vs Salman is passe, now the battle lines are drawn between Ranbir Kapoor vs Shahid Kapoor, let us know who is better?
