Akanksha Puri is a Bollywood actress hailing from a modeling background. She appeared in ‘Calendar Girls’ as a calendar model. Interestingly, her life reads like a story made for the movies.
Akanksha was born on July 26, 1988 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Her father R.K. Puri is a retired commissioner and her mother Chira Puri, is an astrologer. On her mother’s prediction that she would become an actress, she decided to follow the path.
When she was traveling in Chandigarh, a friend asked her to accompany her for an interview as an airhostess with Kingfisher Airlines. Both the girls got selected and started working in Bangalore. She met a model coordinator on flight who advised her to take on modeling. She began taking up modeling assignments during her off-duty time and she had a portfolio of more than 100 ads, most of them print ones. Akanksha says that during her time as an airhostess, she had flown many stars including Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Sidartha Mallya.
A production company based in Chennai was impressed with Akanksha’s pictures on an advertisement hoarding and asked her to meet them to discuss a movie script. The role was for a masala movie called ‘Alex Pandian’ with big movie stars like Anushka Shetty and Suriya’s brother Karthi. The interesting part was that Akanksha bagged the role without even auditioning for it.
Akanskha Puri began doing other South Indian films like Tihar (2014), a Tamil movie; Praise the Lord (2014), a Malayalam film, Lodde (2015), a Kannada film and Samrajyam II: Son of Alexander(2015), a Malayalam film.
The 5 feet 6 inch tall beauty Akanskha Puri debuted in Bollywood with a movie that mirrored with her earlier profession, that of a model. ‘Calendar Girls’(2015), a Madhur Bhandarkar movie opened to a great reception, increasing her popularity at the box office. She plays the character of ‘Nandita Menon’ in the film. An interesting trivia to note is that Suhel Seth plays Vijay Mallya in the movie ‘Calendar Girls’ and Mr. Mallya himself was in the final round of interview that Akanksha had gone for, during the Kingfisher Airlines interview.
