Captain Cool Dhoni’s life has been encapsulated brilliantly in the movie ‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’. During his times of trials and tribulations, his girlfriend Priyanka Jha was a solid anchor in his life. The two were madly in love with each other and Dhoni was quite clear about spending the rest of his life with her.
Priyanka Jha was from the same school as Dhoni, the DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali. While Dhoni came from a humble background, Priyanka’s family was financially strong. Dhoni’s economic status was no issue for Priyanka, who was completely besotted by him. There was a time when even the closest of Dhoni’s friends and family thought that it was stupid on his part to resign from the railway ticket collector’s job. Only Priyanka and Dhoni’s sister-in-law stood by him.
Priyanka was the reason Dhoni got the nerve to fight against all odds and emerge as a sportstar from Jharkhand. Unfortunately, she was not around to see her boyfriend ascend pinnacles of success. She died in a car accident in 2002. Post her death, Dhoni went into complete isolation and didn’t play cricket for six months.
Later, Dhoni realized that it was Priyanka’s dream to see him succeed as a cricketer and play for India. Dhoni is famously known to be ‘Captain Cool’ for being non-temperamental and cool as a cucumber even in the toughest of matches. Post her death, Dhoni became a composed person who would rarely get angry or irked up. The death changed Dhoni’s outlook towards life. He was then picked for India A squad to tour Kenya and Zimbabwe in 2003 and 2004, and things changed for the better, for him.
Priyanka Jha’s character in the movie ‘Dhoni – The Untold Story’ has been essayed by Disha Patani, Tiger Shroff’s girlfriend. MS Dhoni’s character is played by actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Incidentally, Dhoni’s wife Sakhi Singh Rewat is from the same school, but she is eight years’ junior to him. They have a daughter, Ziva.
