Bruna Abdullah, whose height is 5 feet 9 inches, chanced upon Indian cinema, without thinking of making it big here. She had come to India, as a tourist but fell in love with the food and glamor quotient in India, particularly, Mumbai. She started off with her first video in Shekhar Suman’s song from his debut album ‘Mere Gham Ke Dayre Mein’ She then got an item number called ‘Rehem Kare’ in the form of a movie called ‘Cash’, which did not do well at the box office.
Bruna who loves taking on challenges, participated in the reality TV show – Fear Factor –Khatron Ke Khiladi 2. Compared to other actresses who were jittery, Bruna was quite a sport; though eliminated earlier, she got a wild-card entry before being eliminated much later. Bruna’s amazing ability to take on her fears and perform dangerous stunts, won compliments from the host Akshay Kumar, himself. She also participated in the dance reality show, Dancing Queen.
Bruna appeared as an item girl in the superhit song ‘ Tu Mera Hero’ for the movie Desi Boyz, released in 2011. She acted in the Tamil movie, Billa II, where she even won the Best International Youth Icon Award. Bruna Abdullah was roped in to play the other woman in Riteish Deshmukh’s life, in Grand Masti. Among the ladies, Bruna’s performance was the most appreciated one.
Bruna explains that she was in the Philippines before Mumbai happened to her. She says, “ I had a lot of Indian friends there who said I looked Indian and that I must try my luck in Bollywood. I wasn’t too sure but decided to try. So I packed my bags and came here. I had only a three-month visa and I was thrown into a model’s apartment where I had to start again from scratch.”
Her first assignment was a saree ad. She owes her good looks to her dad, whom she believes, is a good looking man. Bruna believes in a living a healthy life, she says that she has a large breakfast, good lunch with two snacks in the evening and has light dinner. She drinks a lot of water and takes care to remove the makeup before going to bed. She says that she tries to keep herself stress-free as much as possible and likes to drink chamomile tea to calm her nerves. She is very clear about not smoking or drinking alcohol.
Bruna’s favorite cuisine is Italian and says that she has been having it since childhood, as her father is an Italian. She has developed an appetite for Indian food, which she calls as ‘tasty and tempting’.
Bruna Abdullah refers to her most embarrassing moment when she had to suffer from loose-motions while shooting for a saree ad. She says, “This is very common with foreigners who come to India. I was shooting my sari catalogue, and I had eaten a lot of spicy food. Little did I know… While shooting, I had to rush to the loo so often that I had to cancel the shoot for the day and go home. It was very embarrassing.”
Sticking to her lifestyle of discipline has translated into Bruna losing out on a lot of offers but she couldn’t care less. She says, “I was rejected by a lot of people because I wasn’t cool and didn’t like drinking and partying but it is okay. The glam world is beautiful, there are lot of handsome men, alcohol is free and you can enter clubs for free and do whatever you like. It is easy to lose focus. I took up work in movies because I was sure about making money and ensuring a comfortable life for my parents. My message to people is to be very careful and smart and choose your friend wisely. Do not do things, you don’t want to just because you want to look cool.”
Bruna Abdullah does not have a boyfriend but she says that she is turned on by smartness in a person and put off by guys throwing in attitude. She says that her perfect date is the one with whom, she would be most comfortable, not bother about putting on makeup and doing her hair, but just chatting away and being Bruna herself.
