Actor Pran Dead, Died at the age of 93

Legendary actor Pran is dead. One of the finest villains of his times, Pran Krishan Sikand passed away on July 12, 2013 at 8.30 PM, at the age of 93. The actor was conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema in 2012. Pran has acted in nearly 400 movies. His first film was ‘Yamla Jat’ in 1945.

He was a hero in movies from 1940 -1947; after which started a long and chequered career as a villain from 1942-1991. Pran donned the mantle of character actors from 1948 to 2007.

Pran won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award thrice  for Upkar (1967), Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool (1969) and Be-Imaan (1972).  He was also the recipient of the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. In 2001, Pran was conferred ‘Padma Bhushan’, the third-highest civilian award from the Government of India. In 2013,  the legendary actor was distinguished with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The legendary actor died after a prolonged illness at Lilavati Hospital. Pran is survived by his wife Shukla Anand and three kids.

Pran is known for phenomenal performances in movies like Zanjeer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Kashmir Ki Kali, Don, Naseeb and Upkaar

  1. RIP Pran Saheb. The article misses many prominent villains of their times like K N Singh, Rahman, Jayant, Ajit, Jeevan, Kanhaiyalal, Rahman, Jankidas, Prem Nath, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Ranjit, Danny and Shakti Kapoor.
